There's no need for the torches and pitchforks

Recently I had the good fortune to complete a trade with Jim, currently of GCRL fame, and soon to be of Frankendodger fame.

This trade saw my buybacks frankenset more than double in size. I even ended up with a couple of duplicate numbers already, but that's not necessarily a bad thing as I can pass along the doubles to Jeff for his set.

So without further ado:
I wish I knew what the mysterious "164" written on Dave Rader's card meant.

Thanks again, Jim. These really helped with the set build. I am very much looking forward to your new blog. And as someone who grew up a big fan of Universal's monster movies, I have to say that the title image you created for the blog looks absolutely fantastic!

Thanks for taking a moment to look at my page.

  1. The more I think about it, the more I'm starting to like the buybacks.

    1. Uh oh, another convert! Be careful if you do come over to the dark side, these cards can be very addictive.

  2. Pretty soon, the higher-ups at Topps are going to start intentionally scrawling on cards (like the mysterious #164 on the Rader) and marketing them as scarce 1/1 parallels.

    1. That's funny, and a very distinct possibility. I wouldn't be surprised too, if people started it doing it to their own cards in an effort to increase the sales on eBay.

    2. Gotta wonder what that 164 represents. You could dedicate a series of posts sharing your thoughts on the mysterious number.

    3. I think you could probably get away with doing such a series, me not so much. Although, I do like the thought of maybe doing one post dedicated to it.

  3. thanks for the trade.

a few weeks ago, i picked up a 1960 roger craig 2015 buyback that had "mets" written on it in what looked like sharpie in the photo i saw before purchasing, but it was under the stamp so i figured it was a marker from the 60's. now with nick's comment, i am not so sure. still, it adds to the character...

i also picked up another lot of these things, so i have another 30 or so to trade if you are interested. let me know.
