Merry Christmas!

I was going through some of my old (and I do mean old) sketch books earlier this year, and this loose bit of notebook paper fell out. I don't remember ever doing this one, but I'm thinking that it's a good 25+ years old. Since it seemed like it would be appropriate for a Christmas post, I went ahead and scanned it at the time, stuck the image in a folder, and now I'm showing it!

Whether celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, or even those of you who are just the "happy holidays" sort, I hope each and every one of you have an awesome day today!

Thanks for taking a moment to look at my page.

  4. My sister and I were just talking about how we can't draw a stick figure but our oldest children are great at sketches. Thanks for sharing yours, and have a Merry Christmas!

    1. Nah, I was never that good. I stopped drawing in my early teens, and have only started back up in last two years or so... and the long absence away from it really shows! Merry Christmas to you too, Marc :)

  7. Hi. I've enjoyed following your blog for a while; it's one of several that inspired me to launch my own. It's Bill's Baseball Card Blog (I know, not terribly original). I hope you check it out. Merry Christmas! CinciCuse Bill

  8. Do they still make wooden Christmas trees? One of the best lines from a holiday special ever.

Merry Christmas to you and yours Jon!

  9. Great picture. My fifth graders the last few years have really enjoyed doing sketching. Some of them were really into for the art, others did it to chill out at different times during the day. That’s a really good sketch. Merry Christmas!

    1. That's really good to hear, almost anything that keeps them away from handheld devices is a good thing! Hopefully some of them will keep it up, which is something that I regret not doing. Merry Christmas to you too :)

    1. I wouldn't mind showing off more old stuff, but I'm way too self-conscious to ever show anything current.

    2. I hear ya. I'm pretty self-conscious too. But from an outsider's perspective, that Peanut's sketch is really, really good.

    1. The only time I used notebook paper for drawing was at school, which meant that I spent a lot of time drawing on notebook paper! Merry Christmas to you too :)

  12. Vince Guaraldi wrote some fantastic music for the Charlie Brown animated films, and your sketch makes me want to listen to those CDs now. Nice work!

    1. With practice, everybody can be good at some kind of art, the problem is that most people never take the time to figure out what they're good at.

  16. I have the hardcover edition of Peanuts Classics. I used to make my own story lines and trace panels from the book. Yours is pretty good for freehand.

    1. That's so wonderful. I don't think that I've ever heard of someone making up their own Peanuts stories before. For some reason I've never been able to trace very well, even now when I sketch in pencil and then go back over it with a pen I struggle. And speaking of the books, I'm thinking that image for this drawing came from either one of the books, or a greeting card, because I'm fairly certain that it wouldn't have come from memory.

  17. Another comment from one who thinks this sketch is wonderful. Merry Christmas Season, Jon! It's never too late to pick up the pen again, so I tell my sister anyway. She possessed great talent in her teens. Could copy an image exactly, and was creative in her own right. She put her pencils away when she married. I couldn't draw a stick figure that wasn't wrecked with arthritis. Straight lines were not in my skill set, nor in my future...

    1. Thank you! I did start back up a few years ago, but have faltered again in recent months, there just doesn't seem to be enough time to do everything that I want to do, so certain things always end up falling by the wayside.
