Other bloggers can be such a bad influence

I can't remember exactly when it was, but sometime last year I was reading some of the older posts over at Can't Have Too Many Cards, one of which featured a set that I had been previously unfamiliar with... that being, the 1971 Milk Duds baseball cards.

Seeing these cards was like love at first sight, and even though I certainly didn't need, or want, any more things to collect, I knew that I was going to have to break down and get some.

I don't recall which player was featured in the post, but I do remember that it was a whole box that was featured, as opposed to the more common cut-outs. I checked eBay that very same night to see what these cards go for, there wasn't a lot to be had at the time, but I did notice that the whole boxes can get a little pricey, depending on the player of course.

My next stop was COMC, where at the time, there was even less available for purchase. That being said, I did find one that I thought I couldn't live without, for what seemed to be a fairly reasonable price (around $3), so I bought it... and then all I had to do was wait a couple of months until the Black Friday free shipping offer came around before I could finally see what one of these cards looked like in person:

Obviously, Joe here is no longer one with his box, but there weren't any whole boxes to be had on the site at the time (there's quite a few right now). Even though it is a cut card, I still really dig it, so much so, that I have since purchased about half a dozen whole boxes from the site... and one of those was fairly big-time player. Since it'll be a while before that box (or any other cards currently sitting in my account) makes it onto the blog, I'll give you a clue by saying the his name rhymes with Neat Nose!

I don't think that I will be trying to collect the entire 69-card set, but I have been, and will continue to be, on the lookout for any affordable whole boxes that I can find. And in the case of some of the bigger names, it might be necessary to go the cut-out route.

Thanks for taking a moment to look at my page

  1. Sweet! Those are one set I have to add to my PCs. Fregosi, Bud H, Kessinger, Osteen, Palmer, Sanguillen, & your Torre.

    1. Other than the Palmer, those shouldn't end up setting you back too much.

    1. I'm glad to hear that someone is, especially since it was my largest single card purchase in a while.

    1. It's been so long since I had any that I can even remember whether I liked them or not.
