After Black Friday Box #2: 2013 Panini Golden Age

Like the 2012 box in the previous installment, I had gotten a box of 2013 Golden Age early last year as well. Last year's box featured three autographs, which certainly was a good thing, however it did seem to throw off the rest of the box as far as what is supposed to be gotten goes. Minor spoiler alert -- This box may have only had the one per box autograph as promised, but I can say with much certainty that it easily trumps the combination of the previous year's trio.

Because of the not so great collation in last year's box, I still needed 69 cards out of the 150 card set, and from this box I was able to get 51 of those 69 needed. Just like the previous post, I'll just show a few of my favorites from the "new to me" bunch:

As far as the minis go, which aren't pictured, 17 of the 24 were ones that I needed.

On to the inserts:
I really like these box topper exhibit cards. Probably my favorite from the three years of various toppers produced.

I mentioned in the last post that the Batter-Up inserts were my favorites from the Golden Age series, the playing cards are a very close second. I was very surprised that I didn't get any doubles of these, in fact none of the inserts were already had.

The Headlines cards are my least favorite of the Golden Age inserts.

Another major difference between last year's box and this one, was that last year I got four Bread for Energy's and no Tip Top Bread. I hadn't even seen the Tip Top's before this Buck Weaver was pulled.

How's that for polar opposite's?

This card comes to you courtesy of Brighto (anyone?).

Time for some memorabilia:

This might not be at top of the Museum Age cards in terms of monetary value, but it definitely near the top of my list of the relic cards from the 2013 edition that I wanted the most. Despite being born after his career ended, Joe Frazier is a fellow I have a ton of respect for as a person (and as an athlete). Even if you're not a boxing fan, I would still highly recommend reading his autobiography, Smokin' Joe.

And finally, a big time autograph:

The Golden Jet! This box was starting to make me a little nervous as the unopened packs dwindled and still no autograph, until this beauty revealed itself in the third to last pack. Oh well, it was definitely worth the wait.

That's it for box #2. Stay tuned for the next installment, which will feature a box of 2012 Panini Cooperstown.

Thanks for taking a moment to look at my page.

  1. Those Golden Age cards are awesome! Love the Apollo 11, Rod Serling and Jean Harlowe cards. And I'm floored by Smokin' Joe and Bobby Hull. Great stuff!

    1. It was a pretty sick box, wasn't it? By the by, it's always nice to have a fellow fantasy league member stop by.

  4. "Hey, want a ride?"
"Wanna buy a bottle of Brighto?"
    "No!"
"Then I'll take the ride!" [turns corner] "Stop here!"

Three Stoogers, Black Sox, jockeys...this is why I love Golden Age. Great box!

    1. Nick, you're just full of surprises aren't you? I wouldn't have pegged you as a stooges aficionado. It's funny too, because the last two Stooges shorts that I watched around six months or so ago, were Dizzy Doctors and Cookoo Cavaliers.
