After yet another week of not wanting to blog, combined with me being pretty darn tired from yesterday's card show, means that this is going to be a one-card special... again!
While I do like the 1954 Topps World on Wheels set, enough so that I've even thought about working on it at some point, the main reason that I bought this particular card though was because it reminded me of the original batmobile.
The Two Place Astra-Coupe never made it past the concept stage, and although similar in design, it wasn't the inspiration for the batmobile, no, that honor is reserved for the 1955 Lincoln Futura:
The story behind the car, and it's eventual use (after some modifications) in the 1966 television series, makes for a fun read. For anyone who may be interested in learning more, I'd recommend checking out The 1966 Batmobile site, as it proved to be an excellent source of information.
Looking ahead to next week: I don't know yet, but hopefully it'll be something a little longer.
Thanks for taking a moment to look at my page
That's a very cool car, and a very cool card! It always fascinates me to see '50s-'60s-era innovation and design.
ReplyDeleteEverything had more personality back then.
DeleteVery cool car. I would love to drive the Batmobile
ReplyDeleteWho wouldn't?
DeleteThe 54T World on Wheels set would be a fun set to build.
ReplyDeleteIt would, and it wouldn't be terribly expensive to do so either.
