COMC Shuffle #6

Another week, another ten randomly selected cards from last year's COMC hoard.

1962 Topps Mars Attacks! #4
*First thought that comes to mind when looking at this card*

My brain:
Don't say it.
Don't say it.
Don't say it.
Don't say it.
Don't say it.
Don't say it.
Don't say it.
Don't say it.
Don't say it.

Me:

2014-15 Panini Prizm Gold Prizms #152
People always knock Panini, but any company that still makes cards of Swen Nater is okay in my book. Oh, and this card is numbered to /10, that's all!

1997-98 Fleer Ultra Platinum Medallion #62P
Even though they're numbered to /100, these Platinum Medallions were a very tough get back in the 90's. Even though I own a couple from this particular set now, it still feels sort of surreal each time that I'm able to get one.

1961 Topps #296 (x2)
I saw a thing on the Twitter (I think) last year about 1961 Topps, it was a poll of some sort for most popular card (or image?) in the set, and if memory serves (scary thought), Wes here ended up being in the top 5 -- if this poll actually happened (I'm pretty sure that it did though), it's not hard to see why this one would be so popular.

1975-76 Topps #80
Hondo's gettin' fresh... hopefully he bought Elvin dinner first :)

2017 Topps National Convention Bowman Chrome Prism Refractor #BNR-KGJ
I've mentioned many times in the past that I don't buy a lot of cards during the Black Friday sale, mostly because of all the sales that aren't actually sales, so much as they are prices that have been hiked up, and then put on sale with prices that are higher than they were before the sale started (COMC doesn't care about all of the people that do this) -- that being said, I did get a few cards during the last Black Friday sale, this shiny Junior being one of them.

1999 Pacific Revolution Thorn in the Side #3
You could put an eye out with this card!

1999-00 Topps Finest Leading Indicators #L5
I'm not going to lie, it's awfully tempting to wanna remove the "protective mask", and touch those circles!

2014 Panini Prizm Blue Prizms #12
I'm pretty fond of the purple prizmed Vikings that I showed a while back, but this blue Eric Dickerson is right up there too amongst my favorites from the 2014 set... I really need a few more copies though.

2012 Topps Chrome Refractor #100 (x8)
Around September of last year, there were nine of these Ichiro refractors on COMC, over the next two months or so, I bought eight of those nine. The ninth card had a punky corner and wasn't priced accordingly, it was purchased by someone during the Black Friday sale, none have been added to the site since.

It seems like the unofficial theme of this week's Shuffle was "old and shiny"... could be worse!

Thanks for taking a moment to look at my page.

  1. Some nice cards in there.

Love the Mars Attacks card, and the Havlicek.

I've never owned an Ultra platinum medallion card.

    1. Sounds like you might need to rectify that lack of Platinum ownership :)

  2. That Covington always seems to show up in pairs. I bought two for a couple different people last year...

  3. Love that Dickerson Prizm (and the Nater, too.) My head hurt after reading the instructions on the Van Horn. I dont think I trust 90s Finest cards with ink of any kind.

As far as the COMC sales that aren't COMC sales..this is why I use the notes feature to type in the lowest price I've seen each card on my watch list. If I see someone jacking up the price, I remove it.

    1. Yeah, that ink would definitely be suspect, hell, the peel might not even come off anymore without taking part of the front with it.

I use the notes too, which helps, but it doesn't stop me from still getting annoyed at all of the sellers that take part in this practice... especially when it keeps getting worse with each passing year!

    1. That's one vote in the "to peel" column :)

  5. Love the 1999 Finest baseball, basketball, and football Leading Indicators inserts! Why can't they make cool inserts like these anymore?

    1. The days of inserts like those are long gone. Making something like that no would require some creativity... and that's something that seems to be in short supply these days.

  6. Wow a Childs I would die to have. And a Griffey I don't own. Glad I didn't miss this even though very jealous!

    1. The Junior doesn't go for very much (I think they made a lot of them), so I'm sure it won't be too long before you're able to get one -- the Childs might be a little more difficult to come by though.

  7. I was one of those lucky people GCA purchased a Covington for! The Mars card is uber colorful but what I like most is the stick figure pilot ejecting from his plane!
